Common Problems and Effective Solutions for urban benches

How do I fix a wobbly leg on my old wrought iron garden benches?

Noticing a wobbly leg on your beloved wrought iron garden bench? Don't worry—it's often a quick fix you can handle yourself. First, flip the bench over carefully on a soft surface like grass or a blanket to prevent scratches. The most common culprit is loose hardware. Tighten all the nuts, bolts, and screws connecting the legs to the seat frame and any cross-braces using the correct size wrench or socket. If tightening doesn't solve the shake, inspect the joints. Over time, the welded joints can crack. For small cracks, a strong epoxy metal adhesive can be a temporary fix. For a permanent repair, especially on larger cracks, welding is the best option. If the wobble comes from an uneven leg tip, place a level on the seat to identify the short leg. You can add a small, durable shim (like a metal or plastic washer) under its foot, or carefully file down the longer legs for an even fit. Finally, prevent future wobbles by checking and tightening hardware annually and applying a fresh coat of rust-resistant paint to protect the metal. Your sturdy bench will be ready for many more relaxing seasons.
