Common Problems and Effective Solutions for urban benches

Is it difficult to move heavy outdoor benches once they're assembled?

Moving a heavy, fully assembled outdoor bench can certainly be a challenge, but it's far from impossible with the right approach. The primary difficulty lies in the bench's weight, bulk, and often awkward shape, which can make lifting and maneuvering risky for your back and the furniture itself.

The key is to never attempt it alone. Always enlist at least one other helper. Before lifting, clear the path completely. The most effective method is to use moving equipment. A furniture dolly is ideal—carefully tilt the bench and slide the dolly underneath, then secure it with straps. For benches without a solid base, consider using sturdy lifting straps for better grip and leverage. For short distances over smooth surfaces, you can "walk" the bench by tilting it and moving one end at a time.

If the bench is too heavy or the route involves stairs, disassembly might be necessary. Check if the legs or seat slats can be easily removed with basic tools to lighten the load. Protect your bench and floors by using moving blankets or old towels as padding. Plan your move, assess the route for tight corners, and always lift with your legs, not your back. With preparation and proper technique, relocating your sturdy outdoor bench can be done safely and successfully.
