Common Problems and Effective Solutions for urban benches

What's the best way to clean mildew off of resin garden benches?

Seeing green or black mildew spots on your favorite resin garden bench? Don't worry, it's a common issue that's easy to fix. Resin furniture is low-maintenance, but porous surfaces can trap moisture and organic material, leading to mildew growth. The best way to tackle it involves a simple, three-step process: prepare, clean, and rinse.

First, take your bench to a well-ventilated area. Put on gloves and protective eyewear. Brush off any loose debris with a soft brush. For the cleaning solution, you have several effective options. A natural choice is a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and water. For tougher stains, use a solution of one part chlorine bleach to four parts water. Alternatively, a commercial cleaner designed for outdoor plastics works great.

Apply your chosen solution generously with a spray bottle or sponge, ensuring you cover all mildewed areas. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes to penetrate and kill the mold spores. Then, scrub the surface firmly with a soft-bristled brush or non-abrasive scrubbing pad. Avoid steel wool or harsh pads that can scratch the resin.

Finally, rinse the bench thoroughly with a garden hose. Let it air dry completely in the sun before returning it to its spot. To prevent future mildew, try to keep the bench dry, store it covered during wet seasons, and give it a quick wipe-down regularly. With this method, your resin bench will look fresh and welcoming again in no time.
