Great question! This is something we get asked a lot, and it's at the heart of our design philosophy. Our benches are engineered to be true all-weather companions, handling everything from scorching summer sun to freezing winter temperatures without cracking, warping, or losing their color. Here’s how we achieve that.
First, it starts with premium, engineered materials. We don't use standard, solid wood that can absorb moisture and expand/contract drastically. Instead, we use high-density polyethylene (HDPE) lumber or powder-coated aluminum for many of our models. HDPE is incredibly stable; it doesn't absorb water, so it won't rot, splinter, or crack from freeze-thaw cycles. Its thermal expansion rate is very low, meaning it handles temperature swings gracefully.
For the color, we use UV-inhibited pigments that are mixed throughout the entire material thickness (not just painted on the surface). This means the color is integral and won't peel, chip, or fade under direct sunlight. Even after years of exposure, the hue remains vibrant because the protection is built-in, not just a superficial layer.
Our metal components feature a robust powder-coated finish. This coating is electrostatically applied and thermally bonded to the metal, creating a shield far superior to traditional paint. It resists chipping, provides excellent UV protection, and prevents rust and corrosion from rain, snow, and salt air.
The design also incorporates strategic engineering. We allow for slight, controlled thermal movement in our assembly methods, using specialized fasteners and joinery that accommodate expansion and contraction without creating stress points that lead to failure. This intelligent construction ensures structural integrity is maintained through seasonal changes.
In essence, we combine advanced, weather-inert materials with deep-permeation color technology and smart engineering. The result is outdoor furniture that offers unwavering beauty and strength, season after season, requiring minimal maintenance. You can install our benches with confidence, knowing they are built to endure the elements gracefully.
