If the screw holes have become too enlarged and stripped, you can use wood glue and a wooden dowel or a specialized filler to create a new, solid anchor point before re-tightening the hardware.
Preventing this common issue comes down to proactive maintenance. Make it a habit to check and gently tighten the hardware on your benches once or twice a year, especially as seasons change. For outdoor wooden benches, a protective sealant can minimize moisture-related swelling and shrinking. Addressing a slight wobble early prevents more severe damage, like cracked wood or completely failed joints, ensuring your bench remains a sturdy and safe spot for relaxation for many more years to come.
