For seating slats, we utilize high-density polyethylene (HDPE) lumber or thermally modified wood. HDPE is virtually impervious to moisture, won't rot, splinter, or crack in freezing temps, and reflects heat to stay cooler to the touch in the sun. Thermally modified wood undergoes a heat treatment that permanently changes its cellular structure, making it highly stable and resistant to moisture absorption and decay in all climates.
Our design also incorporates strategic drainage and expansion gaps. These allow water to run off quickly (preventing ice damage) and give materials slight room to breathe during thermal expansion and contraction.
