Common Problems and Effective Solutions for urban benches

Is powder coating better than regular paint for metal benches?

When choosing a finish for your metal bench, the debate often comes down to powder coating versus traditional liquid paint. For most applications, especially outdoors, powder coating is generally considered superior.

Powder coating is applied as a dry, electrostatically charged powder that is then cured under heat. This process creates a thicker, more uniform, and incredibly durable finish that is highly resistant to chipping, scratching, fading, and corrosion. It's an excellent choice for garden benches, public seating, or any furniture exposed to the elements. While the upfront cost is often higher and color matching can be less flexible, its longevity typically offers better value over time.

Regular liquid paint, whether spray or brush-applied, is more accessible for DIY projects. It allows for easier touch-ups and a wider, more custom color range. However, it generally produces a thinner film that is more prone to peeling, rust, and wear from weather and use. It may require frequent repainting.

Verdict: For a durable, low-maintenance, and long-lasting finish, powder coating is the better choice for metal benches. Opt for traditional paint if you prioritize a specific custom color, have a tight budget, or plan a simple DIY refresh where extreme durability is less critical.
