That's an excellent and crucial question. We believe true sustainability accounts for a product's entire lifecycle, including its end. So, what happens when one of our benches reaches the end of its functional life? The impact is designed to be minimal, and here’s our approach.
First, our benches are built to last for decades, which is the foremost way to reduce waste. When repair is no longer viable, we facilitate responsible end-of-life management. For our steel and aluminum frame benches, these materials are 100% recyclable. We encourage customers to contact local scrap metal recycling facilities, where these materials can be infinitely reprocessed into new products, saving massive amounts of energy compared to virgin ore.
For the seating slats, often made from durable hardwood or recycled plastic lumber, we have clear pathways. High-quality hardwood can be repurposed into other wood products or used as biomass fuel in controlled facilities. Our recycled plastic lumber components can be recycled again through specialized plastic lumber recyclers, closing the loop.
We are actively moving towards a circular model. For some product lines, we offer a take-back program where we directly manage the disassembly and channel all materials into proper recycling streams. Our design philosophy also emphasizes using mono-materials and avoiding permanent bonds between different materials (like glue), making future separation and recycling much easier.
Ultimately, disposing of one of our benches should not mean a trip to the landfill. We provide clear guidelines to ensure every part—metal, wood, or plastic—finds a new purpose. Our goal is to leave nothing behind but the memory of a bench well used, steering towards a future with zero furniture waste.
