Common Problems and Effective Solutions for urban benches

How do you ensure the benches are safe for children?

When it comes to children’s safety, every detail matters—especially the benches they sit, climb, or jump on. We take this responsibility seriously, and here’s exactly how we make sure our benches are safe for kids of all ages.

First, we start with the materials. Every bench is built from high-quality, splinter-free wood or heavy-duty, UV-resistant recycled plastic. We avoid cheap, brittle materials that could crack or break under weight or rough play. All corners and edges are rounded or sanded smooth to prevent cuts, scrapes, and bumped heads. No sharp, dangerous points—just soft, friendly curves.

Stability is non-negotiable. Our benches have a wide, low center of gravity and anti-tip design with extra-wide feet or anchoring options for grass, concrete, or playground surfaces. Even when a toddler tries to climb the bench or a group of kids jumps on and off, the bench stays firmly in place. We test for up to 500 pounds of dynamic weight—far beyond typical child use—to ensure no wobbling or tipping.

We also pay close attention to small parts and openings. All hardware is recessed, covered with plastic caps, or counter-sunk deep into the wood so children can’t pinch their little fingers or unscrew anything. Gaps are specifically sized to be either too narrow for a child’s limb to get stuck, or wide enough to prevent entrapment (think the classic “head through the railing” scare). We follow ASTM and CPSC safety guidelines for bench design in public and private play areas.

Non-toxic finishes are a must. Every surface is coated with lead-free, low-VOC, water-based paint or stain. Kids love to put their mouths on things—especially when they’re curious or teething—so we make sure there’s nothing harmful to ingest or inhale. And we seal the wood to resist moisture, rot, and splinters over time, which means fewer rough surfaces developing as the bench ages.

Finally, we test, test, and re-test. Every bench design goes through third-party lab testing for structural safety, durability, and chemical content. We also conduct real-world trials at daycare centers and school playgrounds, watching how children naturally use the bench—sitting, standing, climbing, or even crawling under it—and making design adjustments based on those real behaviors. And we evaluate the surface beneath the bench, considering if the area should have rubber mulch, sand, or grass for a softer fall zone, especially if the bench is low enough for kids to try climbing on.

So, when I say “child-safe,” it’s not a marketing phrase—it’s built into every piece of wood, every screw, and every curve of the design. You can feel confident letting your kids play and sit on our benches without constant hovering. Because safe benches should let children be children, and let parents relax.
