Absolutely, you can get a sample of the wood stain we use on our outdoor benches before committing to a large order. In fact, I’d encourage it—especially for outdoor furniture, where UV exposure, moisture, and temperature swings can drastically change how a stain looks and holds up.
Here’s how we usually handle sample requests:
1. Request a Finish Sample Card or Swatch
We offer small sample pots of our standard outdoor bench stain—generally the same semi-transparent oil-based formula we apply to our commercial-grade benches. Just let us know which color you’re interested in (we typically stock four to six popular shades like Teak, Cedar, Dark Walnut, and Natural).
2. Test on Your Own Wood Scrap
I recommend applying the sample to a piece of the actual wood you’re using (or a similar species—cedar, teak, and pine absorb stain differently). This way you can evaluate the color, grain prominence, and how the finish feels after drying.
3. Observe Under Real Conditions
Let the sample cure for at least 48 hours, then set it outside for a few days. Look for:
- Color fading or deepening under sunlight
- Water beading or absorption after rain
- Any cracking or peeling around edges
4. We’ll Cover or Split the Cost
For small sample sizes (e.g., 4 oz or a paint stick with dried stain), we typically cover shipping to customers who are planning a large order. If you’re local, you can also swing by our workshop to see full-size bench sections with live stain samples.
Just send me your shipping address and the color preference, and I’ll get a sample out within one business day. If you need help deciding which stain tone works best with your space or upholstery, I’m happy to send photos of the stains on different wood types as well.
Let me know how you’d like to proceed—no pressure, and thanks for considering our benches!
