Common Problems and Effective Solutions for urban benches

I need a park bench that can be anchored into grass—do you include ground stakes?

Great question. I totally get why you’re asking—placing a bench on grass without proper anchoring can lead to tipping, shifting, or even someone getting a surprise tilt after a rainy day. The short answer: most of our park benches do include ground stakes, but it really depends on the model and what you’re working with under that grass.

For standard residential or commercial benches that we offer, many come with a set of steel or powder-coated ground stakes specifically designed to anchor into soft ground like grass or dirt. These stakes are usually about 8 to 12 inches long, with pointed ends and pre-drilled holes that align with the bench’s feet. You simply drive them through the bench base into the soil using a hammer or mallet. In fact, I’d say about 60% of our current inventory includes stakes right in the box—especially the heavier-duty models meant for public parks or garden settings.

But here’s the honest part: some lighter, portable-style benches skip the stakes to keep the design minimalist or for easy relocation. If the model you’re looking at doesn’t mention stakes, it’s worth checking the product description or contacting support. For example, our Cedar Classic Bench and the Steel Park Bench both come with four heavy-duty stakes. The Aluminum Slim Bench, on the other hand, is built for concrete or decking and doesn’t include them.

If you’re anchoring into grass, I’d also recommend a few extras: first, pick a spot where the ground is level. Uneven turf can make even staked benches wobble. Second, if your soil is particularly sandy or soft, consider using ground anchors that expand underground—they hold better in loose dirt than simple rod stakes. We actually stock those as a separate accessory if needed.

One more thing—after you’ve driven the stakes, check them every few months. Grass grows, soil shifts, and stakes can loosen over time, especially after heavy rain or freeze-thaw cycles. A quick tamp down or re-tightening keeps your bench rock-solid.

So yes, for most of our grass-ready models, ground stakes are included. Just double-check the specific bench you’re eyeing, and if in doubt, ask us—we’re happy to confirm before you order.
