The primary test we conduct is a static load test. We apply a uniform weight (simulating multiple people sitting side by side) across the entire seat surface. For a standard six-foot bench, we typically use a total load of around 1,000 pounds, distributed evenly. This ensures the seat doesn’t sag more than a certain amount—usually less than half an inch at the center point.
We also perform concentrated load tests. These place a heavy weight—say, 250 pounds—on each seating position individually to simulate a single, heavy person sitting down. This checks for weak spots near the slats or transitions between seat sections.
For slatted benches, weight distribution is especially critical. If the slats are too far apart or too thin, the weight doesn’t spread evenly, which can cause discomfort or even breakage. Our testing includes applying load to a single slat to ensure it can support the required weight without cracking or deformation.
Additionally, we test for stability. A bench might hold the weight, but if it tilts or rocks under uneven pressure (like someone sitting on one end), it fails our safety check. We simulate this by placing weights on just one seat section.
