First, here’s what we do with your sample slat: when you order it, we take that piece of wood and carefully analyze its existing stain color—whether it’s a specific brand, a custom mix, or an aged finish. Our shop uses both visual matching under natural and controlled lighting, plus digital color-matching tools to identify the exact pigment blend. If the slat is new and unstained, we can apply our standard stains (like Dark Walnut, Redwood, or Cedar) and send you a match.
But here’s the honest part—wood is a natural material. Even two slats from the same tree can absorb stain differently. Grain patterns, density, and how the wood was dried all affect the final color. So while we’ll match the color formula precisely, the actual shade on your bench might look slightly different because of (1) the bench’s existing wood species (e.g., pine vs. mahogany), (2) its age and exposure to sun and rain, and (3) how many coats you apply.
Our guarantee: we will send you a stained sample slat that is within 90–95% of the target color. For most park benches, that difference is invisible once the bench is installed and viewed from a normal distance. If you need a perfect match for a historic restoration or a corporate branding color, we recommend mailing us a small (2×4 inch) piece of your actual bench wood—preferably from a hidden spot—so we can blend a custom stain batch specifically against that material.
