We build them with durability in mind – powder-coated steel, marine-grade timber, heavy-duty recycled plastic – but a dedicated sacrificial anti-graffiti layer isn't part of the factory finish. Why? Because we’ve found that most clients have wildly different needs. One neighborhood might battle spray paint every weekend, while another just wants to stop marker tags. A one-size-fits-all coating rarely makes everyone happy.
Now, you absolutely don’t need to stress about treating them yourself from scratch. We offer two easy paths. First, you can add our factory-applied polyurethane-based anti-graffiti clear coat as a build option when you order. It’s a permanent finish that lets you wipe off spray paint and permanent marker with a mild solvent without damaging the color underneath. Second, if you already have our benches installed, we sell a DIY sacrificial wax kit that’s simple to apply with a cloth. Think of it like carnauba wax for your car – paint bonds to the wax, and you pressure-wash the mess away later, wax and all, then reapply. Most customers go with the DIY kit because it’s forgiving and cheap per bench.
If you’d rather source your own treatment, stick to non-abrasive, ph-neutral sacrificial products made for the material your bench is built from. Avoid silicone-based sealers on powder-coated metal – they can cloud the finish in UV light. For timber slats, a penetrating oil with a nano-ceramic additive tends to work better than film-forming varnishes. And if you’re in a high-traffic area, whatever you choose, keep a small “graffiti removal kit” nearby with the right remover, soft cloths, and a gentle brush. Quick cleanup is half the battle; the faster you remove tags, the less likely vandals get the thrill of seeing their work stay up.
Honestly, whether you treat the bench yourself or let us add the coating, the real magic is in maintenance habits. A bench that gets wiped down weekly and has its sacrificial layer topped up every few months will shrug off vandalism for years. Neglect any bench, coated or not, and you’ll eventually be sandblasting or repainting.
