Common Problems and Effective Solutions for urban benches

Are your street benches powder-coated in a way that resists UV rays for decades?

Absolutely, and I’m glad you asked that because it’s one of the things we’re most nerdy about. Yes, our street benches are powder-coated in a way that genuinely resists UV rays for decades—not just on a spec sheet, but in the real world where sun, salt, and weather do their worst.

Let me break down why. We use a specific blend of super-durable polyester resins combined with high-grade UV inhibitors right inside the powder formulation. Think of it like sunscreen for the metal, but instead of rubbing it on and washing it off, the protection is literally baked into the finish. The coating is applied as a dry powder and then cured in an oven at around 200°C, where it cross-links into a solid, non-porous shell that locks the pigments in place. This isn’t your standard indoor or light-duty architectural powder; we spec a TGIC-free, ultra-weatherable system that’s designed for extreme outdoor exposure. We’ve had benches in desert test sites, coastal promenades, and ski resorts for over 15 years, and the color fade, gloss retention, and chalking resistance metrics still sit well within the industry’s “excellent” range.

What really makes the difference is the multi-layer corrosion protection underneath. Even the best powder coat will eventually break down if the metal underneath starts rusting. Our benches go through a full seven-stage pretreatment: degreasing, rinsing, a zirconium conversion coating (no chrome, eco-friendly), and a final seal rinse. Then we apply a zinc-rich epoxy primer that acts as a sacrificial barrier. Only after that do we shoot the color coat and cure it all together. This duo-layer approach means UV rays might slowly polish the very top surface over 30 or 40 years, but they won’t cause cracking, peeling, or that dusty white oxidation people hate.

As a bonus, we also offer a textured finish option that scatters sunlight more diffusely than a smooth gloss, which naturally reduces the visual impact of micro-degradation. So even if decades of UV alter a few molecules, your eye won’t notice because the soft matte texture keeps everything uniform. You’re left with a bench that stays clean, colorful, and comfortable year after year. So in short: yes, we’ve baked UV resistance right into the coating’s chemistry, and we’ve got the real-world decades to prove it.
