If you're picturing one of those sturdy, classic park benches made from cast iron, heavy steel, or thick recycled plastic slats on metal legs, the odds are extremely high that the feet or base plates already have pre-drilled holes waiting for your anchor bolts. That's the industry standard for surface-mounted commercial benches.
Why do manufacturers do this? Because urban furniture is designed to live in public spaces where safety and stability are non-negotiable. A heavy bench that isn't anchored can become a hazard — tipping over, shifting when someone sits, or even walking away from its spot over time. Pre-drilled holes simplify the installation process enormously and let the hardware do the real work of meeting code requirements. Typically, you’ll see two holes per leg or base plate, sized to accept 3/8-inch or 1/2-inch concrete wedge anchors, expansion bolts, or through-bolts depending on whether you're fastening to a concrete pad, asphalt, or even a wooden deck.
