Common Problems and Effective Solutions for urban benches

I saw a curved urban bench in a magazine—do you carry those in different colors?

Oh, I know exactly the one you mean – that sculptural, almost ribbon-like curved bench that keeps popping up in design magazines and pinned mood boards. I literally stopped flipping pages the first time I saw it, too. And yes, we absolutely carry it, and no, you are not stuck with just one or two standard colors. Let me walk you through what we can do because honestly, the color choice is where this piece really comes alive.

Right out of the gate, the steel shell comes in six core powder-coated colors that we keep in rotation because they are just that popular. We have a soft, warm Ivory Cream that reads almost like limestone in daylight, a deep, velvety Midnight Black that makes the curve look impossibly sharp, and a gorgeous Moss Green that blends into pocket parks and garden courtyards like it grew there. If you saw the bench in a vivid hue in that magazine spread, it was probably our signature Terracotta Burst – it’s a sun-baked, earthy orange that photographs incredibly well and brings instant warmth to grey urban plazas. We also do a cool, contemporary Cloud Grey that architects love for metro stations and corporate campuses, and a cheerful Arctic Blue that you’d swear is reflecting the sky even when it’s overcast.

But here is the part that really gets designers excited: the custom palette. Because the frame is fabricated from high-grade aluminum or galvanized steel and then finished with a multi-layer electrostatic powder coat, we can match virtually any RAL color you have in mind. I’ve seen these benches done in an audacious Acid Yellow that turns a dull sidewalk into an installation, in a rich Bordeaux that looks like wine against autumn leaves, and even in a two-tone finish where the outer curve is one color and the inner cradle is another. The paint is UV-stabilized and salt-spray tested, so that fiery hue you choose is not going to fade to pastel after one summer. We also offer a textured matte additive for high-traffic areas where you want to minimize visible scuffs.

Depending on the model you spotted, the base comes in a few material options that can dial the whole look up or down. We pair the colored shell with either a solid iroko wood base that weathers to a lovely silver-brown, a brushed stainless steel sled that keeps the piece floating and ethereal, or a chunky concrete pedestal in charcoal for permanent installations. If you are going for a bold colored top, I personally love the contrast of the warm wood base underneath – it grounds the piece and stops it from feeling too sci-fi. For coastal projects or splash pads, we also have a marine-grade aluminium version where the color goes all the way down to the footings, so there’s no awkward metallic break.

Sizes vary, too. The most requested length is the 2.4-meter version, which comfortably seats three to four adults without anyone elbowing each other, but we can bend the radius tighter for a more intimate circular grouping, or stretch it out to a full four meters for a statement piece along a waterfront boardwalk. The curve itself is ergonomic, with a subtle lumbar rise at the apex, so people naturally sink into it and linger – something that a straight bench just never quite achieves.

If you have a specific wallpaper or paving swatch you are trying to coordinate with, you can actually request a sample chip set. I usually recommend ordering three to five chips in your favorite contenders and then taking them to the actual site at different times of day. A color that looks perfectly zesty under showroom lights can suddenly turn fluorescent in direct 2 p.m. sun, and the matte versus gloss choice makes a big difference in how shadows play across that sweeping curve. Our client team can walk you through that whole sampling process and even send a digital visualization with your project site photos dropped in.

And because I always get asked this: yes, the benches are fully assembled and delivered on a pallet, with leveling feet that adjust to uneven paving. They are shockingly heavy-duty and don't budge once placed, which matters when you’re installing them in a breezy plaza or a busy schoolyard. Lead times right now are about five to seven weeks for custom colors, slightly shorter for the core collection shades.

Honestly, you are going to be amazed how much that single piece can transform a space. It becomes a meeting point, a photo backdrop, a quiet perch – it’s functional sculpture. So which color caught your eye in that magazine, or are you cooking up your own? Jump over to the product page and scroll through the gallery, or drop us a line with a photo of the clipping and I’ll personally make sure we identify the exact finish. Can’t wait to see where you install it.
