We start with properly dried and selected material. Then we sand each board multiple times, including the ends and underside areas people often touch when sitting down or moving the bench. After sanding, we ease and round all corners and edges so there is no harsh angle to catch skin or clothing. The surface is then sealed with a smooth, weather-resistant finish, which locks down wood fibers and helps prevent splintering over time. The result is a smooth, splinter-free seating surface that feels comfortable even against bare skin.
We also inspect each bench by hand. If a surface does not feel smooth to the touch, it does not ship. That applies to armrests, backrests, seat slats, and legs. We pay special attention to areas around fasteners and joints, because that is where rough spots can sometimes hide.
For added safety, we choose materials that are less likely to splinter in outdoor conditions. If you select a wood bench, it is kiln-dried and sealed to reduce cracking and raised grain. If you select a composite or metal bench, the edges are deburred and smoothed before finishing. The goal is the same: you should be able to run your hand across any part of the bench without worrying about a cut, scrape, or splinter.
Of course, outdoor furniture lives in changing weather, so a little routine care helps keep it that way.
