Instead of standard hex or Phillips heads, our urban benches use security fasteners like pin-in-torx, one-way clutch, or drilled hex bolts. These tamper-proof screws require matching security bits that are not commonly found in hardware stores or average tool kits. A passerby with a standard wrench or multi-tool cannot simply unbolt the bench; the drive either slips, strips, or does not engage. That eliminates most opportunistic tampering.
For high-risk locations, we also spec anti-theft bolts with shear-head or breakaway designs. During installation, the bolt head shears off at a set torque and leaves a smooth, rounded surface that pliers and standard sockets cannot grip. The seat slat or leg stays locked in place, but removing it later requires a specialist extraction tool. This approach is not completely grinder-proof—no public furniture fastener can survive an angle grinder forever—but it is tamper-proof enough to stop disassembly with common tools.
