Common Problems and Effective Solutions for urban benches

What’s the weight capacity per seat on your standard street bench?

Thanks for asking—this comes up a lot. The standard street bench weight capacity is 300 pounds per seat (about 136 kg) when weight is evenly distributed. That means a typical three-seat bench has a total static load rating of about 900 pounds. We base that weight per seat figure on a seating zone of roughly 22 inches wide and a steel frame bench design with reinforced hardware. The outdoor bench load rating also includes a safety margin for rain, temperature changes, and normal wear. It assumes the bench is properly assembled and mounted on a level concrete or paved surface. If you need a higher commercial bench weight limit, our heavy-duty model is tested to 500 pounds per seat. Keep in mind these are static ratings—jumping, climbing, or concentrated impact loads can exceed the design limits. For most public seating projects, the 300-pound-per-seat standard works well and meets typical commercial requirements.
