For metal benches, particularly powder-coated steel, cast aluminum, or ductile iron, most commercial manufacturers offer around 5 to 15 years on the frame and welds. Some higher-end contract brands even provide a limited lifetime structural warranty on certain metal benches. The finish—usually a powder coat or e-coat—will often have shorter coverage, commonly 1 to 5 years. Covered issues typically include rust-through, weld failure, and structural breakage under normal use. What’s usually not covered: scratches, chips, graffiti, vandalism, abrasion, normal fading, and corrosion caused by harsh coastal or chemical exposure unless the bench is specifically rated for that environment.
Wood urban benches are different. If you buy a bench made from dense hardwood like teak or ipe from a reputable commercial furniture company, you might see a 3 to 5-year limited warranty against rot, decay, and structural failure. My practical advice: if your priority is long, predictable coverage—especially for a streetscape or park where maintenance crews are stretched thin—choose a metal bench with a strong frame warranty and a reasonable finish warranty. If you want wood for its natural look or cooler seating in hot weather, choose teak or ipe from a contract-grade manufacturer, accept the shorter warranty, and budget for regular maintenance.
