Common Problems and Effective Solutions for urban benches

Do you sell cushions for your outdoor benches, or are they designed to be used bare?

Great question — and honestly, it’s one of the most common ones we get. The short answer is yes: we do sell outdoor bench cushions for several of our bench collections, but many of our outdoor benches are also designed to be perfectly comfortable used bare. Which option is right for you depends on the bench style, how long you plan to sit, and the look you want.

Which benches are designed to be used bare?

Most of our teak, acacia, and powder-coated aluminum benches have contoured seats and smooth, weather-resistant finishes, so they’re made to be sat on without cushions. Teak and acacia naturally stay cooler than metal under direct sun, and their slatted designs allow water to drain quickly. If you prefer a clean, low-maintenance setup, you can absolutely skip cushions.

Which benches work best with cushions?

If you have one of our deep-seating garden benches, backless benches, or ergonomic metal benches, a cushion can make long lounging sessions much more comfortable. Our garden bench cushions come in a few core sizes and neutral colors that pair well with our frames. They’re made from solution-dyed polyester or olefin fabric with a quick-dry foam insert, so light rain and morning dew won’t ruin them. We consider them weather-resistant bench cushions rather than fully waterproof covers, so a little care goes a long way.

Do the cushions fit all benches?

Not automatically. Bench cushion sizing depends on the frame. We always list the recommended cushion size on each product page, usually in the “Details” or “Dimensions” section. If you’re unsure, measure the seat width and depth before ordering. For most standard outdoor benches, a 48-inch or 50-inch cushion works well, but deep-seating styles may need a thicker or longer option.

Can you leave the cushions outside?

They’re weather-resistant, not weatherproof. For daily use, they can handle sun, light rain, and humidity. But if you live in a very wet climate or expect storms, we recommend storing them in a deck box or bringing them indoors. This keeps the fabric from fading and prevents mildew over time.

How to choose between bare and cushioned?

If you mainly use your bench for short sits — like putting on shoes in the entryway or enjoying a quick coffee — bare is usually enough. If you plan to sit for hours, read, or entertain guests, a cushion adds a noticeable difference. You can also start with the bare bench and add outdoor bench cushions later, which is what many customers do.

So, do we sell cushions for our outdoor benches? Yes — for select models. Are the benches designed to be used bare? Most of them are. Both options work, and it really comes down to your comfort style and how you plan to use the space. If you need help matching a cushion to your bench, just reach out with the model name, and we’ll point you to the right size.
