Common Problems and Effective Solutions for urban benches

How much does a standard street bench weigh so I can plan for delivery?

For a typical 6-foot commercial model, the standard street bench weight is usually between 150 and 300 pounds (68–136 kg). If you’re planning delivery, remember that pallet or crate packaging can add another 20–50 pounds (9–23 kg).

The exact commercial bench weight depends on materials and construction. Here are common ranges for a 6-foot outdoor bench:

- Steel frame with wood or recycled plastic slats: 150–250 lb (68–113 kg)

- Recycled plastic bench: 120–180 lb (54–82 kg)

- Cast iron or heavy-duty steel bench: 200–300 lb (91–136 kg)

- Concrete bench: 400–800 lb (181–363 kg)

The same park bench weight ranges usually apply to most street, park, and campus benches of similar length. If you’re comparing a 4-foot bench, expect roughly 30–60 lb less; an 8-foot model can easily run 100 lb heavier or more.

For bench delivery planning, the safest working number is 150–300 lb for a standard street bench, plus packaging. That means a liftgate truck is strongly recommended unless you have a loading dock. Use a pallet jack or furniture dolly rated for at least 500 lb, and plan for two people. For concrete or oversized models, arrange for a small forklift or specialty delivery service.

So for most outdoor bench delivery situations, tell the carrier to expect a palletized bench in the 180–350 lb range. That way you’ll avoid surprises on delivery day.
