Great question—and the short answer is yes. Our standard street bench design intentionally uses large gaps between the seat slats and an open frame underneath. We do this specifically for security camera visibility.
Most traditional benches have a solid or nearly solid seat pan. That creates a visual shadow: a person can sit normally, but anything placed under the bench—or anyone lying behind it—can disappear from the camera’s view. For transit stops, parks, campuses, and downtown streets, that blind spot is a real problem.
Our benches use a gap-first layout. The seat slats are spaced wide enough that a CCTV or IP security camera mounted above or at an angle can see through the bench. There’s no solid skirt, no enclosed base, and no deep side panels blocking the sightline. The frame is open, so cameras can see the ground beneath the bench, the area behind the legs, and the space between people sitting on it.
We still keep the gaps comfortable and safe. They are wide enough for visibility and drainage, but not so wide that they catch bags, phones, or small items. If your project has a specific camera angle, we can also adjust the slat spacing, bench height, or frame style to match the sightline requirement.
