Common Problems and Effective Solutions for urban benches

Do your urban benches come with a warranty against rust or rot?

Short answer: yes, our urban benches come with a limited warranty that covers rust and rot, but the exact coverage depends on the material and the environment. I’d rather give you the real details than a blanket promise.

For powder-coated steel benches, we cover rust-through of the frame for 5 years from the delivery date. That means if corrosion eats through the metal and affects structural integrity, we will repair or replace the affected parts. Surface rust caused by scratches, chips, vandalism, or salt exposure is not covered unless you choose our marine-grade coating upgrade. If your bench will live near the coast, tell us before ordering and we will build it accordingly.

For hardwood slats such as teak or Ipe, we cover fungal rot and structural failure for 3 years under normal outdoor conditions. The wood will naturally weather and change color, but that is not rot and is not covered. If the wood is cut, drilled, or treated with the wrong product after delivery, the warranty will not apply.

For recycled plastic benches, rot is basically a non-issue. We warrant the material against rot, splitting, and insect damage for 10 years. These benches are the easiest to own in damp, shaded, or high-moisture environments.

Every warranty covers factory defects and normal outdoor use. It does not cover abuse, improper installation, unauthorized modifications, or normal weathering such as fading, stains, surface oxidation, or minor movement in wood. Standing water, harsh pressure washing, or de-icing salts placed directly on metal can shorten the lifespan and are not covered.

If you need to file a claim, email clear photos, the bench model or order number, and a short description of the problem. We usually respond within a few business days and will send replacement parts or arrange a repair when the issue is covered.

My honest advice: if rust and rot are your main concern, choose recycled plastic or marine-grade powder-coated steel. They cost a little more upfront but save a lot of maintenance time later.
