Common Problems and Effective Solutions for urban benches

I’ve heard some street benches tip over in high winds—do yours have a wider base?

Great question—yes, our street benches are designed with a wider base specifically to reduce the risk of tipping in high winds. Instead of straight legs that drop vertically from the seat, our standard frames splay outward at the bottom. That gives the bench a larger footprint than the seat itself, which makes it noticeably more stable when wind hits from the side. We also keep the heaviest part of the frame low and close to the ground, so the center of gravity works in your favor.

That said, a wider base alone is not the whole story. We offer two additional options for exposed or gusty locations. First, our heavyweight frames use thicker steel and can be ordered with an internal ballast compartment near the feet. Second, all of our benches include pre-drilled mounting holes for surface anchoring. If you install them on concrete with wedge anchors or epoxy-set bolts, they become extremely difficult to tip even in sustained wind. For areas that cannot be bolted, we recommend the wider base plus ballast option, and we can also add rubber foot pods to improve grip without damaging the paving.

If you tell me the approximate wind exposure and whether the bench will be surface-mounted or free-standing, I can point you to the exact model and base configuration that has worked well in similar locations.
