Common Problems and Effective Solutions for urban benches

I'm looking for outdoor benches that don't get too hot in the sun, which material is best for that?

When searching for outdoor benches that remain comfortable even in direct sunlight, material choice becomes crucial. While metal benches can become scorching hot and plastic can feel sticky, several materials naturally stay cooler and more pleasant to sit on.

Wood stands out as an excellent natural insulator. Teak and cedar are particularly good choices as their dense cellular structure absorbs minimal heat. These woods feel noticeably cooler to the touch than metal or synthetic alternatives and age beautifully.

Aluminum, especially with a powder-coated finish in a light color, is another top contender. It has high thermal conductivity, meaning it dissipates heat quickly. While it can warm up, it cools down almost instantly when shaded and won't retain heat like wrought iron or steel.

Recycled plastic lumber is a modern solution that performs remarkably well. High-quality versions are designed to resist heat absorption and are always comfortable to sit on. They also offer the benefit of being maintenance-free and eco-friendly.

For maximum comfort, consider the bench's color above all else. A light-colored finish, whether on wood, metal, or plastic, reflects sunlight rather than absorbing it, keeping the surface temperature significantly lower. Positioning your bench in a partially shaded area will also ensure it remains a cool, inviting spot to relax all day long.
