That's an excellent and increasingly important question. When we design and manufacture our urban benches, the environmental impact of the materials is a primary consideration from the very first sketch. We've moved far beyond just using any durable wood or metal. Today, our focus is on a lifecycle approach: sourcing responsibly, ensuring longevity, and planning for end-of-use.
Our most popular line utilizes post-consumer recycled plastic, often from recovered milk jugs and detergent bottles. This diverts significant waste from landfills and oceans, creating a supremely durable, weather-resistant bench that requires no staining or chemical treatments. For our wooden benches, we exclusively source timber from forests certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), guaranteeing sustainable forestry practices. We also incorporate aluminum, which is highly recyclable, often with a high recycled content itself.
The true environmental win is in longevity and maintenance. By selecting materials that withstand decades of use with minimal upkeep, we drastically reduce the need for replacements and the associated carbon footprint of manufacturing and transportation. When a bench does finally reach its end of life, the materials are designed to be easily separated and recycled again, supporting a circular economy.
Ultimately, our goal is to create a product that not only serves the community but also respects the ecosystem it sits within. We believe that public furniture should contribute to a greener city, not detract from it. Every bench is a commitment to a more sustainable urban future.
