Common Problems and Effective Solutions for urban benches

How do we prevent rust on the bolts and fittings of your park benches?

That's an excellent question! Rust on bolts and fittings isn't just an eyesore; it weakens structural integrity and can stain clothing. At our company, preventing rust is a cornerstone of our design and maintenance philosophy. Here’s how we tackle it, and what you can do for long-term care.

First, we start with the right materials. We primarily use two types of corrosion-resistant hardware:

* Hot-Dip Galvanized Steel: This is our standard for most fittings. The components are immersed in molten zinc, creating a thick, bonded layer that acts as a sacrificial barrier. Even if scratched, the zinc corrodes first, protecting the underlying steel.

* Stainless Steel (Grade 304 or 316): For benches in coastal or high-humidity areas, we often upgrade to stainless steel. Grade 316, with its molybdenum content, offers superior resistance to salt spray and is highly recommended for marine environments.

Beyond material choice, we apply additional protective barriers. This includes powder coating the metal parts after fabrication. This tough, baked-on polymer finish adds an extra layer of defense against moisture and UV rays, and it allows for color matching to your park's aesthetic.

Our design also plays a role. We engineer benches to minimize water traps where moisture can pool around bolts. Proper drainage is a simple yet effective rust-prevention strategy.

For maintenance, we recommend a simple routine:

1. Regular Inspections: Twice a year, visually check for chips in the coating or early signs of reddish-brown discoloration.

2. Gentle Cleaning: Use a mild soap and water solution to remove dirt, salt, and bird droritus—all of which can accelerate corrosion. Avoid harsh abrasives.

3. Touch-Up Repairs: For any small nicks or scratches in the powder coat, a dab of matching rust-inhibitive paint can seal the area.

4. Prompt Replacement: If you notice significant rust on a bolt, replace it promptly with a new galvanized or stainless steel one to prevent further degradation.

By investing in the right materials upfront and following a minimal care routine, the bolts and fittings on your park benches can remain strong, safe, and visually appealing for decades.
