When people ask about the environmental impact of producing our urban benches, we welcome the question—it’s at the heart of our design philosophy. We believe street furniture should give back to the community without taking from the planet.
Our process starts with materials. We primarily use recycled aluminum and post-consumer plastic lumber. The aluminum is sourced from industrial scrap, saving 95% of the energy needed for virgin aluminum production. The plastic lumber diverts thousands of plastic bottles and containers from landfills each year, creating durable, maintenance-free slats that never need painting.
Manufacturing is localized. We produce benches in regional facilities close to installation sites, drastically reducing transportation emissions. Our factories run on renewable energy where possible and employ efficient, low-waste production techniques. We’ve redesigned components for easy disassembly, allowing for repair, part replacement, and full material recovery at the bench’s end-of-life—closing the loop in a true circular economy.
Beyond the product, we consider the bench’s entire lifecycle. Its durability eliminates frequent replacements. Its presence encourages pedestrian activity, subtly supporting less car-dependent communities. We’re also piloting a program to integrate native planters into designs, promoting urban biodiversity.
We’re not claiming perfection, but we are committed to transparency and continuous improvement. Every bench is a step toward a more sustainable and sociable urban landscape.
