For added protection in high-risk areas, some municipalities use locking metal security covers that are chained and padlocked over benches during overnight hours.
Finally, strategic placement and community vigilance are powerful, low-tech tools. Installing benches in well-lit, highly visible areas near pathways or surveillance cameras naturally discourages malicious activity. Fostering a sense of community ownership, where residents feel invested in their public spaces, creates an informal network of observation that is one of the most effective theft-prevention features of all. By combining robust physical security with smart design and active community use, we can ensure our park benches remain welcoming and intact for everyone to enjoy.
