Common Problems and Effective Solutions for urban benches

How do we anchor these outdoor benches to a concrete surface?

Anchoring outdoor benches to concrete is essential for safety, theft prevention, and stability. Here's a practical guide. First, choose the right anchors. For most benches, concrete expansion anchors (sleeve or wedge type) or concrete screw anchors are ideal. For heavy-duty applications, consider chemical anchors. You'll need a hammer drill with a masonry bit matching your anchor diameter, a wrench, safety gear, and of course, your bench. Start by positioning the bench where you want it. Mark the drill points through the bench's mounting holes onto the concrete. Move the bench aside. Drill your holes to the depth and diameter specified by the anchor manufacturer—blow out any dust. Insert the anchors into the holes. Carefully reposition the bench, aligning its legs or base plates over the anchors. Thread the provided bolts or nuts through the bench and into the anchors. Tighten them securely, which expands the anchor inside the concrete for a rock-solid hold. Ensure the bench is level before final tightening. For added security on public benches, consider using tamper-proof hardware. Properly anchored, your bench will withstand weather and use for years to come.
