Common Problems and Effective Solutions for urban benches

What's the easiest way to clean mildew off of plastic outdoor benches?

Seeing that greenish-black mildew on your plastic outdoor bench is frustrating, but cleaning it is easier than you think! You likely have the best solution already in your pantry. For a simple, natural clean, white vinegar is your top choice. Just mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Generously spray the mildewed areas until thoroughly wet. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes to an hour; the acetic acid in the vinegar kills the mildew spores. Then, scrub the surface with a soft-bristled brush or an old cloth. Rinse thoroughly with a garden hose. For tougher stains, make a paste with baking soda and a little water. Apply it to the stubborn spots, let it sit for 15 minutes, then scrub and rinse. Always work in a shaded area to prevent the cleaner from drying too fast. To prevent mildew from returning, try to keep benches dry and store them indoors during wet seasons if possible. A quick weekly wipe-down can make a huge difference. With these simple steps, your plastic benches will look fresh and clean all season long.
