Common Problems and Effective Solutions for urban benches

How do your outdoor benches compare to concrete ones in terms of durability?

When you’re choosing an outdoor bench, durability is probably at the top of your list. Concrete benches have a reputation for being tough, but they come with some real downsides that might surprise you. Let me walk you through how our benches stack up against concrete, so you can make the best choice for your space.

First off, concrete does last a long time—no doubt about it. A concrete bench can sit in a park for decades without falling apart. But here’s the catch: concrete is brittle. Over time, temperature changes cause it to expand and contract, leading to cracks. You’ve probably seen those benches with small fissures or chunks missing after a few harsh winters. And once concrete cracks, it’s nearly impossible to repair without leaving a visible scar. Our benches, on the other hand, are made from high-grade materials like powder-coated steel or recycled HDPE (high-density polyethylene). These materials are engineered to handle extreme temperatures without cracking. They flex slightly under stress, which means they won’t shatter like concrete can.

Another big difference is maintenance. Concrete benches are porous, so they absorb water, dirt, and even mold. You’ll need to seal them regularly to keep them looking decent, and that’s a hassle. If you skip a season, you’ll end up with stains, moss, or spalling—where the surface flakes off. Our benches are non-porous and UV-resistant. Rain, snow, or sun doesn’t affect them. A quick rinse with a hose is all they need to look brand new. For commercial spaces like hotels or city parks, that’s a huge time and cost saver.

Weight is another factor. Concrete benches are incredibly heavy—often over 300 pounds. That makes them a security risk if someone tries to move or tip them over, but it also means installation is a pain. You’ll probably need a crane or a team of people just to put it in place. Our benches are much more manageable. While they’re still sturdy enough to stay put in high winds, they’re light enough for two people to carry and reposition. That flexibility is key if you want to rearrange your outdoor layout later.

Now, let’s talk about safety. Concrete can chip or crack into sharp edges over time, which isn’t great if kids or elderly folks are using the bench. Our benches have a smooth finish and rounded edges—no risk of cuts or splinters. Plus, they don’t get as icy cold in winter or scorching hot in summer as concrete does. You can sit comfortably year-round without needing a cushion.

Finally, consider the environment. Concrete production has a high carbon footprint because of the cement involved. Our benches use recycled materials and are fully recyclable at the end of their life. If sustainability matters to you, that’s a clear winner.

In short, while concrete benches are undeniably strong in certain ways, they can’t match our benches in overall durability when you factor in cracking, maintenance, safety, and ease of use. Our benches are designed to last longer—and look better—with far less effort on your part. So if you’re looking for a bench that really stands the test of time (and weather), I’d confidently say ours are the smarter choice.
