Let’s be honest—when you first look at our standard outdoor bench and the premium line, you might think the only difference is the material. And yes, the material plays a big role. But if I’m being completely real, the difference goes much deeper than that.
The standard bench is built for reliable, everyday use. It’s made from pressure-treated pine or powder-coated steel, which holds up fine in mild weather and moderate traffic. It’s a solid choice for a home garden or a low-traffic park. But the premium line? That’s a whole different animal.
First off, the premium uses a heavier gauge steel frame—sometimes with stainless steel or marine-grade aluminum that won’t rust even near saltwater. The wood is typically FSC-certified hardwood like Ipe or Teak, or sustainably sourced high-density polyethylene (HDPE) in coastal climates. But here’s the kicker: it’s not just the raw materials. The finish is where the magic happens—the premium bench gets a hand-applied UV-stable coating, hidden stainless hardware, and a rounded-edge design to avoid water pooling. That means after five years outdoors, the premium will still look new, while the standard might show some fading or slight warping.
Also, the premium line has a designed weight capacity of 600 lbs versus the standard’s 400 lbs, because we use reinforced cross bracing underneath. So if you’ve ever seen a bench sag in the middle over time, that won’t happen with the premium.
In my personal experience, the biggest difference clients notice is not in year one—it’s in year five. The standard bench will still be functional, but it might need a fresh coat of stain or a small weld repair. The premium will just keep looking beautiful with virtually no maintenance. So to answer your question: yes, materials are different, but it’s the engineering behind them that makes the real difference.
