Let’s start with the silent killer of wood: UV radiation and moisture tag-teaming every single day. Wood, even treated or naturally rot-resistant species like teak, is a ticking clock in harsh sun. The sun draws out its natural oils and lignin, turning that honey-gold surface into a splintery, silvery-gray skeleton within a couple of seasons. You’ll need to oil, seal, or sand it to keep it from cracking. Humidity and occasional rain make it swell and shrink, which widens those cracks further.
