We often get asked, “What materials are your urban benches made from—like steel, wood, or recycled plastic?” It’s a great question, because the material choice directly impacts durability, maintenance, and how the bench blends into a cityscape. The short answer: we use all three, but each is tailored to different needs. Our standard urban benches feature a galvanized steel frame, powder-coated for extra rust resistance. The seat and backrest slats are typically made from either sustainably sourced hardwood—like ipe or teak—or from high-density recycled plastic lumber. Recycled plastic is especially popular for coastal areas or high-traffic parks because it never rots, splinters, or needs painting. Steel benches with wooden slats offer a classic, warm look, while 100% recycled plastic benches are nearly maintenance-free and can handle harsh weather. For projects that demand a modern industrial feel, we also offer all-steel benches with perforated metal seats. These are incredibly sturdy and often used at transit stops. No matter which material you choose, every bench is designed with anti-theft hardware and a 10-year structural warranty.
