Common Problems and Effective Solutions for urban benches

What's the return policy if a street bench arrives damaged?

If your street bench arrives damaged, don’t panic—you’re very likely covered, but you need to act fast and document everything. Most retailers that sell outdoor benches have a clear damaged street bench return policy: they will typically offer a replacement, repair, or a full refund, but you must report the problem within their stated window. Check the seller’s policy page and look for terms like “freight damage” or “concealed damage.

The most important step happens at delivery. If the box or crate is visibly damaged, do not sign for it as “received in good condition.” Note “damaged on arrival” or “subject to inspection” on the delivery receipt, or refuse the shipment if the damage is severe. For freight deliveries, that note next to your signature can make or break your claim.

Once you have the bench, take clear photos and videos before moving it. Capture the damaged area, the packaging, the shipping label, and the full bench. Keep all original packing materials until the issue is resolved. Then contact customer service within 24–48 hours if possible. Many brands require damage to be reported within 48 hours for shipping damage, while concealed damage found after unpacking may be allowed up to 30 days.

When you contact them, email the photos and include your order number, bench model, delivery date, and whether the damage was visible on arrival or found after unboxing. Ask specifically about the damaged street bench return policy and whether they offer an outdoor bench refund, replacement, or repair. For large, heavy benches, many sellers prefer not to make you ship the item back. Instead, they may send a replacement part, ship a new bench, or issue a partial refund and let you keep the damaged one.

If a return is required, confirm who pays for return shipping and whether the seller will arrange a freight pickup. Do not pay out of pocket for freight return unless they agree in writing to reimburse you. If the carrier caused the damage, the seller may need to file a freight damage claim, and your photos and delivery notes will support that process.

If the seller refuses to help and you paid by credit card, you can consider disputing the charge, especially if the item arrived significantly not as described. But most outdoor furniture sellers will work with you if you report promptly and have proof. In short: inspect on delivery, document the damage, report within 48 hours, and ask for a replacement or outdoor bench refund.
