Great question—and one we get a lot from parents. Yes, our outdoor benches are designed with a smooth, kid-safe surface. We sand every wooden slat until it feels comfortable under bare hands, then round the edges and corners so there are no sharp spots. Before packaging, each bench goes through an inspection for splinters, raised screws, or rough welds.
For our composite and metal benches, we use powder-coated or weather-resistant finishes that stay smooth through sun, rain, and temperature changes. The coatings are non-toxic and free from heavy metals, which matters when little ones touch the surface and then eat snacks. We also keep slat spacing narrow to reduce the chance of pinched fingers.
That said, no outdoor furniture is a substitute for supervision. But if you run your hand across one of our benches, it should feel smooth—not slippery—and safe for kids to climb, sit, and play nearby.
