First off—thanks for asking. It’s a smart question, especially if you’re managing a streetscape, campus, park, or transit area where repairs can get expensive fast.
The short answer is no. Our urban benches are designed without moving parts. There are no hinges, folding seats, reclining backs, bearings, springs, or adjustable joints. What you see is basically what you get: a fixed, solid seating platform supported by sturdy legs and frame connections.
Why does that matter? Fewer moving parts means fewer things that can wear out, loosen, rust, or snap over time. In public spaces, benches take a beating—weather, heavy use, vibration, occasional misuse, and even attempted vandalism. A hinge or pivot might feel like a nice feature in a catalog, but in real outdoor conditions it becomes a maintenance headache. Dirt gets in, lubrication fails, fasteners back out, and then you’re sending a crew out with tools.
Instead, we keep the design intentionally simple. Our connections are welded or secured with tamper-resistant hardware. The materials are selected for outdoor exposure—typically powder-coated steel, aluminum, or weather-resistant hardwoods. That means the bench stays functional year after year with little more than occasional cleaning. No parts to oil, no joints to tighten, no locking mechanisms to fail.
If you’re choosing urban benches for a public project, I’d actually recommend avoiding moving parts unless you have a dedicated maintenance team and a strong reason for them. Fixed benches age more gracefully, stay safer, and tend to look better longer. They’re also less likely to pinch fingers or create trip hazards—two things public works teams often worry about.
So yes, our urban benches are built to be static, tough, and low-maintenance. That’s not an oversight. It’s the whole point.
