URBAN BENCHES

I totally get it—graffiti on outdoor benches can feel frustrating, but most tags come off faster than you think if you match the method to the material. For painted metal or sealed wood benches, start with warm water, a few drops of dish soap, and a stiff nylon brush; scrub the area before trying anything harsher. If that doesn't work, soak a clean cloth in isopropyl alcohol (70% or higher) or use acetone-free nail polish remover and rub in small circles. This often removes spray paint and permanent marker without damaging the finish. For unfinished wood, a baking soda paste or a commercial graffiti remover works well; when cleaning outdoor furniture like these benches, always test it on a hidden spot first. On plastic or composite benches, a magic eraser or a paste of baking soda and water is surprisingly effective. If the graffiti covers a large area, pressure washing is the fastest option, but use a fan tip, keep the nozzle at a low angle, and stay at least 12 inches away to avoid splintering wood or forcing water into joints. Once the paint is gone, rinse the bench with mild soap and water, let it dry completely, and apply a clear anti-graffiti sealant or paste wax to make future cleanups much easier. Wear gloves and eye protection, and if you're working with strong solvents, do it in a ventilated area. With the right cleaner and a little patience, those benches can look normal again by this afternoon.
