Great question — and one worth asking before you buy. On our outdoor benches, the main load-bearing frame and legs are genuine solid stainless steel, not painted steel pretending to be stainless. You’ll notice the difference in the surface: real stainless has a cool, slightly brushed metallic grain with visible welds, while painted metal feels smoother and has a uniform, opaque finish. We do use powder-coated steel on a few decorative panels and armrest details so they match the stainless tone without adding weight or cost. The good news is both materials are outdoor-rated. The stainless parts resist rust on their own, and the powder-coated steel is sealed against moisture and UV. If you’re shopping elsewhere and want to check quickly, look at the edges and underside — paint can chip, but stainless will show the same metal all the way through. A magnet can also help: many stainless steels are only lightly magnetic, while painted carbon steel is strongly magnetic. Hope that helps you choose the right bench.
Is the metal on your outdoor benches made of stainless steel or just painted to look like it?
