Great question. Our street benches are designed to live outdoors year-round, so rain and snow are not afterthoughts—they are part of the core specification. The short answer is very weather-resistant, but let me break down exactly what that means.
Frames and coatings: We use galvanized steel or powder-coated aluminum on most models. The galvanized layer prevents rust from starting even if the coating gets scratched. Powder coating adds a sealed, UV-stable skin that does not peel or bubble through freeze-thaw cycles. For coastal or heavy-snow areas, we offer stainless steel hardware and marine-grade coatings.
Wood and composite slats: If you choose timber, we use hardwoods like Ipe or thermally modified ash, which resist moisture uptake and cracking. Better yet, our recycled plastic slats do not absorb water at all, so they will not warp, rot, or splinter after repeated snow melt.
Drainage and design: Benches are built with slight gaps between slats and angled seat surfaces where possible, so water runs off instead of pooling. Tubular frames have weep holes at low points, allowing condensation or melted snow to escape rather than freeze inside and cause stress.
Hardware and touchpoints: Bolts, brackets, and foot mounts are zinc-plated or stainless. This matters because hardware is often where outdoor furniture fails first—not the visible surfaces.
Winter performance: Snow load is not a problem for the frame. We recommend letting snow sit or brushing it off; the finish will not be harmed. Ice will not degrade the coatings either, though we suggest using plastic shovels rather than metal scrapers to avoid surface scratches.
Realistic expectations: No outdoor product is completely immune to nature forever. But with our materials and finishes, a properly installed bench should give you 10 to 20 years of service in normal rain and snow conditions with only basic cleaning. If you need a bench for alpine, coastal, or high-traffic environments, tell us and we can spec upgraded hardware and coatings.
So yes—rain and snow are exactly what these benches are built to take.
