Common Problems and Effective Solutions for urban benches

Do your street benches come with a rust-proof guarantee for coastal areas?

Great question—and honestly, it is one we wish more buyers asked before specifying street furniture near the coast. Yes, our coastal-range street benches do come with a rust-proof guarantee, but the important part is that not every bench we sell is automatically approved for coastal use. The guarantee applies to our marine-grade benches: 316 stainless steel frames, 316 stainless fasteners, and a marine-grade powder-coated finish over hot-dip galvanized steel or aluminum.

In a coastal environment, salt-laden air and wind-driven spray settle on surfaces and accelerate corrosion. Ordinary powder-coated carbon steel can look fine inland but begin to blister near a beach within a year or two. That is why our coastal benches are built differently. We use a three-layer system: hot-dip galvanizing or 316 stainless base, an e-coat primer, and a UV-stable polyester powder topcoat. All hardware is stainless steel, and we add drainage holes so water does not pool inside frame sections.

Our standard rust-proof guarantee for coastal projects covers structural rust-through for ten years. This includes frame perforation and joint failure caused by corrosion under normal coastal exposure. It does not cover cosmetic surface oxidation, scratches, abrasions, graffiti damage, or benches installed in direct tidal splash zones unless we have specified a custom marine finish. That is not a sneaky exclusion—it is just how metal behaves. We would rather tell you up front.

If you are placing benches on a beachfront promenade, boardwalk, marina, or cliff walk, we recommend the 316 stainless steel version with a passivated or powder-coated finish. If you want a timber look, we pair marine-grade stainless steel frames with FSC-certified teak, jarrah, or recycled plastic battens—never mild steel brackets. Aluminum is another good option because it does not rust, although it can still pit in aggressive coastal conditions, so we use a thick marine powder coat for protection.

A quick maintenance note: even a rust-proof bench lasts longer if you rinse it with fresh water every two to four weeks during dry seasons and after storms. Salt deposits are the real enemy. If you allow salt to sit on the surface, it attracts moisture and can degrade coatings over time. A quick rinse and a soft cloth do more than most people expect. Avoid pressure washing directly at joints, and check drain holes each season.

So, to answer directly: yes, our street benches come with a rust-proof guarantee for coastal areas—but only when you select a coastal-spec model. If you tell us your project location and distance from the sea, we can recommend the right frame, coating, and warranty. If a sales rep offers you a standard inland bench for a seafront project because it is cheaper, walk away. That is the bench that will be staining the paving with rust within two years.

Hope that helps—happy to send technical data sheets or warranty terms if you need them.
