Common Problems and Effective Solutions for urban benches

Do your street benches have any sharp edges or corners that could snag clothing or hurt kids?

Great question, and honestly one of the most important ones we get from schools, parks, and neighborhoods. The short answer is no: our street benches are not designed with sharp edges or exposed corners that could snag clothing or hurt kids. That said, let me walk you through exactly why and what we do differently.

Every bench starts with a steel or aluminum frame. After welding, our team hand-finishes the joints. We grind down the weld seams and round the outside corners of the seat and backrest before the powder coating goes on. That means there are no raised burrs, raw metal lips, or 90-degree edges left exposed. The seat slats are either smooth timber battens with rounded profiles or powder-coated metal slats with rolled edges, so a passing jacket or a child's hand slides over them without catching.

On many models we also add injection-molded end caps or cast aluminum corners. These cover open tube ends and create a soft, finished edge. In high-traffic play areas or daycare environments, we recommend our child-friendly configuration, which uses extra-radius corners, flush hardware, and no exposed fasteners on the seating surface. Recessed or tamper-resistant fasteners keep things secure while reducing scratch points.

Before shipping, each bench goes through a simple hand test. If we can slide a hand along every edge without feeling a catch or a sharp point, it meets our standard. If you ever receive a bench with a sharp spot, that is not normal. It may be transit damage or a rare finishing miss. Contact us, and we will replace or repair it.

No outdoor product can be 100% injury-proof, but the design intent is clear: smooth, rounded, snag-free, and child-safe. If you are shopping for a public space, look for those details—rounded corners, covered tube ends, flush fasteners, and smooth welds. That is exactly how our street benches are built.
