When planning urban bench installations, proper space measurement is crucial for both comfort and accessibility. To determine the total area needed for one of our urban benches, you'll need to consider both the bench's physical dimensions and the required leg space.
Start by measuring the bench's length and depth. Our standard single-person urban benches typically measure 60-70cm in depth and 120-150cm in length. However, the total area requirement extends beyond these basic measurements.
For adequate leg space, we recommend allocating an additional 45-60cm in front of the bench. This clearance area allows users to sit comfortably and provides necessary space for leg movement. The total area calculation should therefore include: bench depth + leg space clearance multiplied by the bench length.
For example, a bench with 65cm depth would require approximately 110-125cm of total depth when including the recommended 45-60cm leg space. Multiply this total depth by the bench length to determine the complete footprint.
Additionally, consider accessibility requirements. We suggest maintaining at least 90cm of clearance behind the bench for pedestrian passage and 150cm in front for wheelchair accessibility. These measurements ensure your bench installation meets standard accessibility guidelines while providing comfortable seating.
Remember that installation surface and local regulations may affect these measurements. Always verify specific requirements with your local municipal guidelines before finalizing your bench placement plans.
