Securing a park-style bench to a concrete slab is a straightforward DIY project that prevents theft and unwanted movement. Here’s a reliable method using concrete anchors.
First, gather your materials: a hammer drill, a masonry bit matching your anchor diameter, a wrench, concrete anchors (wedge anchors or sleeve anchors are excellent choices), a marker, and safety gear.
Position the bench exactly where you want it. Using the bench's leg mounting holes as a template, mark the drill points on the concrete with a marker. Move the bench aside.
Now, put on your safety glasses. Using the hammer drill and correct masonry bit, drill holes into the concrete slab at your marked points. The hole depth should slightly exceed the length of your anchor.
Clear the holes of all concrete dust using a brush, vacuum, or compressed air. This ensures a solid grip. Insert the anchors into the holes. If using wedge anchors, place the bench legs over the anchor bolts, then tighten the nuts with a wrench. This action expands the anchor sleeve inside the concrete, creating a powerful, permanent hold. For sleeve anchors, you often insert the anchor through the bench leg into the hole, then tighten.
For maximum permanence, especially in public spaces, consider using epoxy adhesive alongside mechanical anchors. Inject epoxy into the cleaned hole before inserting the anchor for an unbeatable bond.
Once all anchors are tightened, give the bench a firm test. Properly installed, your bench will be firmly anchored, resistant to tipping, and a much harder target for thieves. Enjoy your stable and secure outdoor seating
