That persistent squeak from your wrought iron garden bench can ruin a peaceful moment outdoors. Don't worry—fixing it is usually straightforward. First, identify the source. Clean the joints thoroughly with a wire brush to remove rust, dirt, and old paint flakes. Dry the area completely. For most squeaks, a lubricant is the solution. A silicone-based spray or a dry lubricant like graphite powder is excellent as it won't attract dirt. For severely rusted joints, a penetrating oil like WD-40 can loosen them first; apply it, work the joint, wipe away excess, and then follow with a longer-lasting lubricant. Tighten any loose bolts or screws with the correct wrench. For benches with moving parts, ensure they are aligned properly. Regular cleaning and a yearly application of lubricant will prevent future squeaks and protect your bench from the elements.
